The Mural Man Travels to Albania to Paint Community Murals #6, #7 and #35
Mural Man Directory | Download The Mural Man #6, #7 & #35

Phillip Martin (The Mural Man) traveled to Gjirokaster, Albania several times to create Murals #6, #7 and #35 - "Gjirokastra Ime, My Gjirokaster". Phillip Martin includes folk lore, recipes, his original graphics and photography from each city and location visited, and links to activities designed to enrich social studies, literature and art.
Think of it, his words and photography will take you walking along the cobblestone streets of
Gjirokaster; exploring a nearby castle;  hiking to the nearby countryside to peek inside the remains of bomb shelters; riding a bus to Tirana and discovering how time changes a city; and visiting the real castle and lake in Shkoder that were in the first book about the elderly detective Mrs. Polifax.

Each page is an adventure as you read recipes that are part of the culture of Albania, such as how to prepare Sarma or take the time to read the Albanian Folk Tale, "The Half Rooster" collected and rewritten by Phillip Martin.

Phillip’s stories are designed to encourage teachers and students to talk about the world and its beautifully diverse range of communities, food and customs. “I realized it is very possible to travel to a country and not meet one person who lives there.  That all changed with my murals.  They have opened doors into the personal lives and homes of local people who have so generously shared with me experiences that no tourist ever has the opportunity to enjoy.”
