Learn How you Can Support the 2018 Liberian Folktales Project
![]() Phillip Martin gathered his first African folktale as part of his work in the Peace Corps in Liberia, Africa. Since then, he has continued assembling a collection of folktales to share with students around the world. As of today, Phillip has assembled 50 folktales from Liberia as well as another collection of 50 folktales from southern Africa.
Art is a means for healing and rebuilding communities devastated by disease, disaster and war. Phillip’s quest to convey optimism through his murals began and grew from that sojourn in Namibia. Eight years later, in 2016, he returned one more time to Africa, to Zwedru, Liberia, to paint his 44th mural. As of August 2017, Phillip has created 52 murals on 4 continents in 25 countries. As educator, Phillip is always trying to find ways to share his knowledge with teachers all over the world, and in turn, for them to share it with their students. |
